Art by Peggy Henderson

Specializing in commissioned pet portraits in various mediums, as well as original animal art

I hope you will take a few moments to explore my site, and view some of my example artwork. Most of the images are commissions I have  done in various mediums for private clients. I also have a page dedicated to some of my original paintings, most of which have been sold to collectors around the world. Some I have retained for my own collection, and some may be available for sale.

The mediums I work in for commissioned work are graphite pencils, and acrylics. You will find my commission fees to be very affordable and reasonable (please click on the Prices/Ordering button) for the quality of the portraits, and the time I spend on each and every one..

Featured Art!

The following pastel painting was done at the request of my husband. Our favorite vacation destination every year is Yellowstone National Park, and what a better symbol of this magnificent place - besides Old Faithful Geyser - than a bison? Here we have a magnificent bison against the background of Yellowstone Lake, shadowed in the setting sun of an August eve. My husband made a stunning wooded frame for this painting, using lodgepole pine that we collected on one of our trips to the park (all downed wood). One side of the frame depicts a replica of the fireplace at the Old Faithful Inn, complete with handmade winding clock. If only the web could do the photos justice! This frame is definitely a one-of a-kind piece of art.

There is nothing like an original!

What better way to immortalize and pay tribute to your beloved pet – whether horse, dog, cat, or any other companion animal that has brought joy and happiness to your life – than with a portrait drawing or painting! Pet portraits also make wonderful gifts for any occasion – Birthdays, Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Christmas, just because!

Animals have been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember, and some of my most treasured possessions are portraits of my pets that have passed away. I put as much care and attention to detail into every portrait I create as if it were my own pet. Twelve years of working in the veterinary field has taught me how much each and every one of our dogs, cats, birds, horses, rabbits, etc means to us, so creating a portrait of your special friend is not something I take lightly. It has also given me an extensive familiarity with many breeds and their inherent personality traits and characteristics. I strive to extend this knowledge into my portraits.

New for 2007!

Beginning this year, I will also be offering portraits and originals in colored pencil, as well as pastels. Please check back soon, as I am in the process of developing my galleries for these mediums.

Also! I am in the process of adding pages to showcase my recently-developed passion for miniature artwork called ACEO’s and OSWOA’s.

ACEO stands for Art Cards Editions and Originals. The size of these pieces is trading card size of 2.5inch x 3.5 inch. They are highly collectable and tradeable. They fit into standard trading card sleeves, or they can be framed individually or in groupings.

OSWOA stands for Original Small Works of Art. These are 4 inch by 6 inch, and can be displayed framed, or collected in standard photo sleeves.

I am frequently adding or changing images on the site, so please visit again to see new artwork! It is so difficult to choose from the hundreds of pieces I have completed, which to post on the site, so I plan to change the images on a regular basis.
